In the women’s open division, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) tandem of Rileigh Powers and Marlie Monserez faced off in the quarterfinals against 15-year-old Plantation resident Elena Lam and her partner, Carley Todd.
The UCLA duo prevailed 16-21, 21-17, 15-12. “When I found out we would be playing against the players from UCLA, I was so excited,” Lam said. “This is one of the best experiences I have ever had, and I’ll never forget this. It was really close and was such a good game. I’m going to go back to the video and see how I can improve.”

SoFLO Beach has a permanent training facility
SoFLO Beach Volleyball is having our Sand/Beach Training practices on our own sand courts at Soref JCC, known as the SoFLO SandBox. The 2 courts are filled with 550 tons of sifted beach sand and provide 5,600 square feet playing surface with entire perimeter fenced with a soft polymer, as well as fully lit up for night time training, a perfect venue for SoFLO Volleyball athletes to train and compete in the sand volleyball game. Having these courts allows for SoFLO Volleyball Academy to train year around and run tournament events in pursue of growing the sport.
SoFLO Volleyball is now partnered with AVP America and is scheduling tournaments for the coming 2023-24 beach season. You will be able to find these events under the AVP website calendar and on Volleyball Life.
